My name is Rachael, and years ago my fiancé Bryan was diagnosed with (minor) cystic fibrosis. Because he shows no symptoms, he wasn’t aware until his urologist diagnosed him with CF. Most men, like he, with cystic fibrosis (97 to 98%) are infertile but not sterile because they produce sperm. When it unites with an egg, which also contains half of the chromosomes, an embryo is created. Infertility in men with CF occurs because of an absence of the sperm canal.

My fiancé and I are getting married on October 1, 2022, and would love to start our own family immediately. We are in our mid-30s, so we have started the process by getting professional advice from his urologist, genetics specialist, my OBGYN, and the fertility clinic. We are open to adoption, too, but would like to give IVF a try first.

To make this even more of a struggle, this procedure costs up to $20k. We have learned that women starting IVF, only 33% have a baby as a result of their first cycle. Because of this, we could use all the help we can get. There’s a chance we will have to try a 2nd time, which will cost us additional money. Our medical insurance like most does not cover this operation.
